Happy 2009!

Ok sensation-seekers, there’s now a Betacast feed which tracks Boxer beta versions, just like the Appcast feed tracks official releases. Each version entry has a list of changes and a link to download that version.

If you’re not afraid of a bug or two then give the betas a go; the latest one lets you finesse the game installation process by holding down Option as you drag-drop a game. Please let me know about any bugs you find and any new features you love or hate, preferably before I go and release.

Please don’t link to beta versions though: old beta downloads are likely to disappear on a regular basis, and besides which they might contain herpes. And you wouldn’t want to give your friends herpes.

As a side note, Boxer betas will automatically check for newer betas at startup, as well as newer releases. Which is nice.

Boxer is busy cramming European languages, because we all know the ladies love a continental man. It’s currently studying Dutch, Italian and Norwegian, and might try to pick up a smattering of French and Brazilian Portuguese too before the next release. Bonjoooouuuur.

New website emerges Wednesday 3rd December 2008

A little prematurely to be sure—I had intended to launch the new site once 0.81 was out—but Google's ravenous, unslakeable hunger for new pages to index has forced my hand. So here we are: a swanky overreaching website for a humble little app.

My astute readers and robotic overlords will notice that the new website sports an Appcast feed, which delivers timely announcements of new releases to your inbox or feed aggregator. Or would do, were there any new releases to announce. (Boxer 0.8 also checks every few days for updates itself, so as soon as the next version comes out it should notify you when you start it up.)

The new release is plump and lusty, raised on a diet of cleverness and interface refinements. All it’s waiting on now is OS X 10.4 testing, so if you have 10.4 and are able to help out, please get in touch so I can kick the damn thing out the door already.

Rebranding Thursday 20th November 2008

As if I didn’t have enough else to do I’ve started redesigning the Boxer website, with a new style that will be carried over to the User Guide and disk images also. Click the peek below for a full-page mockup:

Edit: Since the new design has blown into town already, consider this a ‘target render’ of sorts; the site will only look as good as the screenshot in Safari, Firefox 3 or some flavour thereof.
