Using Boxer

Get started: how to install your games and play.

Boxer in a Nutshell

What are gameboxes?

Boxer’s gameboxes are self-contained bundles that store a game and everything it needs to run. Just double-click on a package and it will launch in Boxer.

Though they act like single files, gameboxes are really just ordinary folders with the .boxer extension. You can look inside them by ctrl-clicking and choosing “Show package contents.”

If you have a DOS game installed in a regular folder, you can make it into a gamebox just by renaming the folder to Game Name.boxer.

You can move, rename and redistribute your gameboxes however you like: the games inside will keep on working wherever they go.

Your DOS Games folder

Launch the Boxer application to bring up your DOS Games folder. Boxer creates this as a home base for your games—you can put them here to access them easily.

The DOS Games folder comes with some sample gameboxes and helper applets for Boxer.

You can move or rename your DOS Games folder however you like—Boxer won’t mind. And you don’t have to put your games in there if you don’t want to, they’ll work from anywhere on your Mac.

Uninstalling Boxer

If Boxer doesn’t tickle your pickle, you can uninstall it completely by moving these items to the trash:
